Quick Start A

An accelerated, teen-and-adult-friendly piano method that teaches Supersonics core skills through engaging pieces and a faster, more flexible learning pace.

Quick Start A adapts the Supersonics Piano Method for older beginners (approximately age 12+), including teens and adults, with an accelerated pace and a more streamlined progression between pieces.

Students learn the same core techniques and musical concepts you’ll find across the earlier Supersonics levels, but in a format that suits older learners — engaging repertoire, clear goals, and practical musical application rather than “busywork”.

Like the main method, Quick Start A integrates reading, technique, aural skills, creativity, and musicianship into the repertoire itself. Students build real confidence as they develop strong foundational technique, learn to read across a wider range, explore transposition and composition tasks, and apply pop chords in musically satisfying contexts.

The book is designed to be self-contained and highly practical: concepts are taught through the pieces and activities so students are always making music. If you’d like a separate, game-based way to explore theory ideas, you can optionally pair this book with the Level 1 Theory book.

The Learning Journey

Quick Start A is organised into clear learning sections that let older beginners move faster without skipping foundations. Rather than separating “reading”, “technique”, “rhythm”, and “musicianship” into isolated drills, the book teaches these skills through practical pieces — so students learn by making music.

The sequence begins with focused Reading and Technique pieces, then broadens into Explorations and Landmarks (which expand range, styles, and patterns), before moving into key-based repertoire that consolidates fluency in new tonal centres.

Reading and Technique — core skills, fast confidence

Students build secure reading habits, rhythmic reliability, and coordinated technique through a carefully graded sequence. The writing develops fluency hands-together, introduces articulation and dynamic control in a practical way, and steadily expands the reading range without locking students into a rigid five-finger mindset.

Explorations — style, chords, and musical application

These pieces help students apply their reading and technique skills in more stylistic and harmonically interesting contexts. Students explore chord-based textures, modern patterns, and engaging arrangements alongside original repertoire — expanding musical understanding while keeping the experience enjoyable and motivating.

Landmarks — wide range reading and navigation

Landmarks consolidates confident movement around the keyboard by building familiarity with the signpost notes and expanding reading across a wider staff range. Students practise recognising patterns and distances, improving orientation and reducing the tendency to read note-by-note.

F major — tonal expansion and expressive repertoire

Students begin playing in F major through repertoire that reinforces key awareness, hand position flexibility, and listening. This section supports deeper musical control as students integrate new tonal material into familiar Supersonics-style patterns and textures.

D minor — minor-key fluency and stronger left-hand confidence

The D minor section consolidates minor-key awareness through engaging pieces that strengthen coordination, tone control, and expressive playing. Students continue expanding their practical harmony knowledge while improving left-hand security and overall musical fluency.
