Supersonics Piano Method Level 2 continues directly from Level 1, but the keyboard starts to become a much bigger place. Students read across a wider range, move more freely between registers, play increasingly independent two-hand textures, and begin working with more varied rhythms, keys, and styles.
Reading continues to develop through landmark notes rather than fixed hand positions. The five Cs become important reference points, helping students find their way around the keyboard while gradually extending the distance they can read and move. Leaps and changes of register appear regularly, so moving around the keyboard becomes a normal part of playing rather than something saved for later.
The repertoire also becomes much more varied. Alongside original pieces, students encounter pop-style chord pieces, canons, folk tunes, and selected classical and historical repertoire. Chords and harmonic patterns appear throughout the level, while transposition and “continue the piece” activities encourage students to listen, experiment, and notice how the music is put together.
The same Whole → Part → Whole approach continues from Level 1. Students first experience musical ideas in context, spend time on the particular reading, rhythmic, technical, or creative skills involved, and then bring those skills back into complete pieces.
By the end of Level 2, students are comfortable reading over a much wider area of the keyboard and have considerably more freedom to move, coordinate the hands, recognise patterns, and approach music in different styles.

Level 2: Module by Module
Level 2 is organised into 10 modules. Each one has a particular focus, but the reading, technique, rhythm, listening, and creative work continue to overlap throughout the book.
The reading range expands steadily, coordination becomes more involved, and students begin travelling much further around the keyboard. Chord pieces, transposition, and creative continuation activities also appear throughout the level, giving students different ways to understand and use the musical ideas they are learning.
Module 1: Consolidation and musical control
The opening module revisits the main technical and reading skills from Level 1 through new repertoire. It gives students time to settle into the new level before the range and coordination demands begin to increase.
Module 2: Dotted rhythms
Dotted rhythms return in a wider variety of pieces, giving students more practice feeling the rhythm securely rather than treating it as a one-off concept.
Module 3: More challenging coordination
The relationship between the hands becomes more involved, with greater independence and more varied hands-together textures. Students learn to manage what each hand is doing without losing the overall shape of the music.
Module 4: Speed and fluency
Quicker patterns begin to appear more regularly. The aim is not simply to play faster, but to keep movement relaxed and efficient as the music becomes more fluent.
Module 5: The C major scale
The C major scale is introduced through music and keyboard movement rather than as an isolated technical exercise. It gives students another useful way to understand fingering, direction, and travel across the keyboard.
Module 6: Coordination and independence
A second coordination-focused module develops greater independence between the hands through pieces with contrasting rhythms, textures, and movement patterns.
Module 7: Expressive playing in the upper register
Students spend more time playing higher on the keyboard, exploring a different sound world and developing control of tone, balance, and phrase shape.
Module 8: Landmark notes and a greatly expanded range
This is a major reading step in Level 2. The five Cs, together with other familiar landmarks, are used as reference points across the keyboard so students can read larger leaps and move confidently through a much wider range.
Module 9: F major
F major is explored through repertoire, patterns, and creative work. Students become familiar with the sound and layout of the key while continuing to build fluency moving around the keyboard.
Module 10: D minor
The final module moves into D minor, giving students another contrasting tonal sound while drawing together the wider reading range, coordination, rhythm, and expressive skills developed throughout Level 2.
